Association of Friends of Fine Artsofkt

The Association of Friends of Fine Arts was founded in 1998 as non-profit organisation with its aims being the promotion of the Arts in Cyprus and the cooperation between artists of the two communities.

ACTIVITIES

The Association in cooperation with Α.Ι.Ε.S.M. organizes Symposia of Monumental Sculpturing in different areas of Cyprus and also participates in international Symposia with Cypriot artists. There are discussions within the framework of the Symposia on the trends and developments in Monumental Sculpturing.

The Association has created and manages the Sculpturing Park at Ayia Varvara in the Nicosia District. The Park has twenty sculptures from different artists and is continuously enriched with sculptures made within the framework of the International Symposia. Until now, two International Symposia have been organised at the Ayia Varvara Sculpturing Park under the E.U. INTEREC programme.

The Ayia Varvara Sculpturing Park is being developed and the aim for the near future is the construction of a Gallery to host Art and Sculpture exhibitions, as well as the construction of an amphitheatre to host plays and movies.

The Art Fair is being organised at the Sculpturing Park with the participation of Greek- and Turkish-Cypriot artists, and includes Painting, Sculpturing, Ceramics, Hagiography and Mosaics. In this framework, the Cinema Week is also organised, where movies by Cypriot directors are shown.

INTERNATIONAL SCULPTURING SYMPOSIA IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT

The Association organises International Sculpturing Symposia in association with the Municipalities with the participation of artists from different countries in an attempt to create Sculpturing Parks in various Cypriot municipalities.

Until there have been two International Sculpturing Symposia in association with the Polis Chrysochous Municipality, two Symposia with the Polemidia Municipality, one with the Mesa Yeitonia Municipality and one with the Nicosia Municipality. The works that were created in the framework of the Symposia are placed in Sculpturing Parks that are in the setting-up process, as well as other public places.

The Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture is a consistent supporter and sponsor of the Association's activities, which proves the success of the work of the Association.
